SUCCESS COMES WITH CREATVITY (Published on Dialogue Magz)

Stefanus Pongki Tri Barata or known as Pongki Barata put his mind on music and found he loves it. He is a 39-year-old talented singer and song writer who can deeply create meaningful songs through its soothing melody. Does anyone know that he is actually a graduate from English Language Education Study Program? Yeah, he earned his bachelor degree from Sanata Dharma University. And, in his tight schedule as a public figure, Pongki gave himself a time to come to his alma mater. We met in Driyarkara Auditorium of Sanata Dharma University, and Pongki admitted that he was very happy to come back and be jamming with ELESP’s big family in English Action Days (EAD) 2016. In that event which was held on 7th and 8th May, Pongki came as a guest star and Dialogue obtained a special interview with him.

·         👀 What are you up to recently?
I enjoy my time working for the silver screen, doing my hobby in music by becoming a judge in a TV program “Lip Sing Combat” and jamming with my band, The Dance Company, as well as devoting myself as a good daddy for my two children as they are home-schooled. Another thing I do is promoting my new album, Rahasia.
·         👀 Why do you choose to be an entertainer?
Well, being an entertainer is always my dream. I realized that I loved music when I was a six-grade student in Elementary School. However, studying is also one important thing to support my career. Especially, because I took English Department and that really supports me in achieving my dream, I also made an attempt to fulfill my parents dream for having a degree in education. Besides, going to college has some benefits too. One of them is expanding our network.
·         👀 Who supports your career?
I cannot count how many supporters I have. But basically family, lecturers, and great colleges-these individuals, as life elements, are primary ingredients that give much effort to reach my dream.
·         👀 We all know that to be a singer is not an easy matter. So, how can you maintain your popularity?
That’s true. Being an entertainer is not all about popularity. The significant thing is that we have to be able to maintain our creativity. Popularity is just an impact of being creative. Creativity keeps me alive in this entertainment world and now I can get the benefits from it. Specifically, I am active in producing songs, teaching the music industry through social media, magazines, and doing a consultation with some people. In short, popularity is meaningful when we can give valve to other people.
·         👀 What is the obstacle that you encounter in maintaining your popularity?
The obstacle is when I am not creative enough and I couldn’t be productive. If I’m not productive, I cannot live my life and become as successful as I am now. So to overcome the obstacle I should have creativity to produce something.
·         👀 In your opinion, what is passion?
Okay, for me passion is something that you’re doing without hoping to get any reward and you still keep working on it although your time is limited.
·         👀 What principle of life that you hold?
Appreciate what you’ve achieved so far, and see that what you want and where you’re going, is not what you need or what you must do. Rather, these are things and actions that will make the situation even better. Being thankful and grateful will change the life dramatically.
·         👀 What is the most memorable place in Jogja for you?
There is one place in Jogja which lingers in my mind that is Alamanda, a studio at Gejayan Street. In that studio, I spent my youth and wrote a song for Audy entitled Menangis Semalam and some songs for Jikustik.
·         👀 Would you mind giving a message for PBI students in the future especially in finding their passion?
When we want to achieve some things, set our goals, try to think out of the box, create something that never existed before, and be the change the world needs. It takes a great deal to be supportive and encouraging through my music I create; and I believe every one of you can strive your passion either.

Finally, Dialogue really had a wonderful time with this very inspiring singer and we hope he will always be on the top of his success and produce many other masterpieces.😍😍
