Reducing The Use Of Paper

Paper is a precious part of our life, especially in the university. Administrators, lecturers, and students are accustomed to use paper in their daily life. Although it is a habit but it makes the world become worse. Based on The World Counts (2014), in North America many paper companies are now modifying their processes to reduce the use of paper. They are now seeking renewable sources of paper so they do not have to cut down the beautiful life-giving trees.  In this essay, I will tell three reasons why we should reduce the use of paper in the university.
First, reducing the use of paper will save our money. Papers costs tend to increase over time. For example, Asia Pulp and Paper is the largest pulp and paper company in Indonesia and a subsidiary of the Sinar Mas Group, which owns stakes in property and palm oil. It is also the third-largest pulp and paper company in the world, behind International Paper in the United States and Stora Enso of Finland (. Paper is a valuable resource and if we use paper carefully, it will make us feel better than being wasteful. For example, use smaller fonts and margins for large documents and collect paper that has been used one side only and reuse it as draft or scarf paper.
Second, it will reduce deforestation. Deforestation is one of the major problems in      this time. Based on The Paperless Project (2013), worldwide consumption of paper has risen by 400% in the past 40 years, with 35% of harvested trees being used for paper manufacture. If we use paper responsibly and efficiently, it will help decrease deforestation and support responsible paper production. According to The World Counts (2014) every tree produces enough oxygen for three people to breathe, so we should consider it. For illustrate, in our academic context we can use exelsa moodle or email to submit our assignments.
Third, it will lessen the paper pollution. According to Martin (2011), pulp and paper is the third largest industrial polluter of air, water and soil in both Canada and the United States. The amount of paper products is enormous, so the environmental impact is very significant. The process of recycling paper also requires energy and usually bleaching agents. Both bleach and energy production generally harm for the environment (Harack, 2010). To solve this problem, we can take the advantage of technologies like tablets, computers and smart phones to keep our files or notes.
The university might think that they depend on paper. The administrators use it for sending letters, lecturers use it for distributing materials for students, and students also use it to take notes, submit the assignments and thesis. But, there are many ways to reduce the use of paper, for example we can take notes in our gadget, use e-book and use paper properly. If we need to buy paper, we can buy the recycled. Although it is not perfect, but it is a step in the right direction.
To sum up, there are three reasons why we should reduce the use of paper such as it will save our money, reduce deforestation and lessen the paper pollution. Efforts to reduce the use of paper by doing simple things will give a good impact on our live. We should find the best way to reduce the use of paper as soon as possible, so we can save our environment and get our beautiful earth back again.
